Counseling for Anxiety

Anxiety is a form of worry that can be excessive, generalized, hard to control - even immobilizing.  The fear experienced from anxiety is usually out of proportion to the actual event or circumstance, and can manifest itself through multiple physical symptoms.

There are reasonable fears and then there are those that are irrational. The Word of God says that “What time I am afraid I will trust in God” (Psalm 56:3). Counseling will include education, relaxation techniques, and assessing the need for a referral for medication. Self care and maintaining a healthy regiment can help minimize the impact of some stressors. We will examine the faulty thinking patterns that fuel the anxiety, utilize exposure to reduce the fearful reactions, and gain insight into the roots of the anxiety.

“There are times when the fear of the feeling of anxiety can serve to heighten ones’ anxiety level. Being able to increase ones’ capacity to feel anxiety can help with facing those situations one tends to avoid; and as you do so, you can discover that the feared situation is not as bad as you imagined it would be.”
